We hope you’ve all had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to a great New Year… The bin men have been working very hard keeping up with collections, and in order to help with general rubbish and recycling collection, garden waste collections will not take place this week (30 December) and rubbish collections will be a day late (except for those collections taking place today, Tuesday 31 December).

Extra recycling

As the recycling was collected on Christmas Eve, you may need extra bags by the time the next blue bin collections (w/c 6 January). You can place additional recycling in plastic carrier bags, cardboard boxes or clear recycling sacks bought from some supermarkets or online next to your recycling bin. Please don’t use black sacks, as the collection crew needs to be able to see it’s recycling.

NB. If you often fill up your blue lidded recycling bin you can request another one at www.tandridge.gov.uk. You can also take your recycling to a community recycling centre or certain items can be taken to a recycling bank.

Extra rubbish

You can place additional rubbish in sacks next to your black wheeled rubbish bin and our collection crews will collect it on your first rubbish collection day after Christmas Day.

Please check the items you throw into your rubbish bin as so much can now be recycled. Please check what you can recycle at www.tandridge.gov.uk/recycling.

Recycling Christmas trees

Anyone with a real Christmas tree can recycle it in the following ways:

  • Take it to the Community Recycling Centres in Bond Road, Warlingham, or Chaldon Road, Caterham and put it in the garden waste container.
  • Cut it up and compost it in your home compost bin.
  • If you are a member of the Biffa Green Waste Club, cut up your tree (maximum tree trunk 4″ diameter) and put it in your bin for collection. Make sure you can still close the lid.

Food recycling

If you have any food waste, please put it in your green food waste bin and not in your black bins. That way,  it can be turned into fertiliser and compost, rather than being destined for landfill.

Thank you and have a fantastic New Year.
