Limpsfield is generally a very peaceful area with a low crime rate. However, crime does take place in our lovely part of the world, and we all need to be vigilant. Read on to find out more about crime prevention in our area and key information on who to contact.
Recently we have seen increases in car thefts, thefts from commercial vans, theft of catalytic converters and home burglaries. There is also an issue with rural crime, with much of our parish being rural with many farms, riding stables and other agricultural and rural residential properties reporting thefts of equipment and livestock.
It’s safe to say that the more we stick together and the more vigilant we are, the safer our environment can be. During Covid-19 pandemic, we have all experienced a renewed sense of community and have returned back to the “good old days” when we knew our neighbours and looked out for each other.
Many roads now have their own WhatsApp or Email groups for residents. These can be a great way of keeping in touch about local security/crime issues too, as recently demonstrated by a proactive WhatsApp group in Park Road, Limpsfield, with the quick action of one of the residents leading to the apprehension of one of a gang of car thieves who have been casing many houses in the area, stealing vehicles to order…
WhatsApp groups could be viewed as the natural development of the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, which started before today’s technology was available to all.
Neighbourhood watch does indeed still exist and is extremely useful. You can still set up a local scheme for your road or immediate vicinity. There are various groups in Limpsfiled, and the local organisational hub is the Tandridge NW – https://www.tandridgenhw.org/
You can find out lots of tips and how to set up a scheme here: https://www.ourwatch.org.uk/get-involved/.
