We are very happy to say that our application to register The Carpenters Arms, Limpsfield Chart as an Asset of Community Value has just been approved by Tandridge District Council.

The Carpenters Arms, on Tally Road, Limpsfield Chart has been a very important part of the local community since the early 1800s.

Pubs and other services like ‘The Carpenters’ across the country are under threat from potential development. So, it’s more important than ever to make sure we try to protect these valuable community assets to ensure they can continue to provide their important service for many more generations.

As a Parish Council, we are responsible for protecting the character and community of Limpsfield and have been taking steps to register important land and buildings as Assets of Community Value to help them play a part in our community for as long as possible.

Under the Localism Act 2011, Assets of Community Value (ACV) form a part of the Community Right to Bid. This acts as the first stage in identifying and nominating buildings or other assets, such as land, that have a main use or purpose of furthering the social wellbeing or social interests of the local community, and could do so into the future.

This means that the local community bid may not be the successful one, but it does go some way to preventing the quick purchase of an asset for development before the community has a say…

We must all play a part in ensuring Limpsfield assets continue to thrive in the community and we hope that with its new status as an Asset of Community Value, The Carpenters will remain at the heart of the Limpsfield Chart community for future generations.
