The Friends of Limpsfield Common (FoLC) have just published a lovely book that tracks the development of the Commons since their beginning, complete with some wonderful and rarely seen photographs, maps and drawings of the area.
The book, “Limpsfield Commons” is the result of a manuscript penned by the late archeologist, Shirley Corke following a commission by the National Trust into the land use of Limpsfield Common.
Working with Shirley’s daughter, Emma Corke (also an archeologist), a small team of Friends of Limpsfield Common volunteers, consisting of Chairman Yves Le Hur, Chris Pendred and Deborah Langton, have put together this wonderful book based on Shirley’s original manuscript, accompanied by some fabulous illustrations and photographs.
Shirley was well known for her archeological work in Surrey and for her many location studies, including Guildford, Abinger Hammer and Charterhouse.
The book will make a wonderful present for Christmas or any other occasion and is available through The Friends of Limpsfield Common.
The team would like to thank everyone involved in this very special project and particularly the National Trust and Titsey Foundation for their assistance.
